AboutMe
Massimo Belli (Rome, 1995) is an independent curator and historian of Contemporary Art who graduated at the University La Sapienza in Rome in 2021 with a thesis on the abstract expressionist Conrad Marca-Relli, realised with Claudio Zambianchi and Ilaria Schiaffini and thanks to the fundamental contribution of the Galleria d'Arte Niccoli. During the studies, he took part in the editing of the posthumous volume dedicated to the bibliography of art Informel by Enrico Crispolti, curated by Luca Pietro Nicoletti. After working at the Bio- iconographic Archive of the Galleria Nazionale in Rome, in October 2021 he collaborated with and for Mattia De Luca in the curatorship of the retrospective CONRAD MARCA-RELLI | Il Maestro Irascibile dedicated by the Galleria Mattia De Luca (Rome) to the Italian-American master in collaboration with the artist's Archive, of which Belli is assistant. For the same exhibition he realised, together with David Anfam, the critical contributions of the catalogue, published in the summer of the same year by Skirà. In December 2021, he wrote the critical text for the exhibition MARCO EMMANUELE - Un Raggio Verde realised by Operativa Arte Contemporanea. In 2022 he intensified his relations with Galleria Niccoli with the curatorship of the Memoria e Materia stand at ArteFiera Bologna (four-person show - May 2022), Nicus Lucà, co-curated with Roberto and Marco Niccoli in the context of Flashback2022 in Turin (monographic show - November 2022), I knew you were trouble when you walked in at ArtVerona (monographic show - October 2022) and Boyfriends in Roma Arte in Nuvola (monographic show - November 2022) both dedicated to the British artist Jessica Wilson. In summer 2022 he worked, for Mattia De Luca and with Marilena Pasquali, on the realisation of the exhibition GIORGIO MORANDI | Il tempo sospeso at Galleria De Luca. In the summer of the same year, he began a writing collaboration for Hypermaremma through a series of interviews conducted on the pages of the magazine InsideArt with the artists participating in the initiative. The year 2022 ended with the creation for Galleria Mattia De Luca, together with the art historian Marco Zindato, of an exhibition project for young artists and middle careers: DL projects. He curated the opening exhibition of this section with Jodie Petrosino, La Fortuna della Fragilità, dedicated to the artists Marcela Calderón Andrade and Tommaso Spazzini Villa, and contributed to the curatorship of the catalogue, to which he also made a four-handed contribution with Zindato himself.
